One of the biggest things that shapes how your photos feel is the location you choose. Every spot has its own personality. Some feel soft and coastal, some feel earthy and open, and some give you a bit more variety all in one place.
I’ve put together a few of my favourite locations to help make choosing a little easier. These are places I love shooting at and know well, which means I can help guide you into the best light, best angles, and best little pockets in each spot.
When choosing your location, I’d recommend thinking less about what looks “perfect” and more about what feels most like you. If you love the beach, salty air, and open space, a coastal location might be the best fit. If you’re drawn to trees, grass, and a more earthy backdrop, there are beautiful options for that too.
There’s no wrong choice here. Each location offers something different, and all of them photograph beautifully in their own way. My goal is always to help you choose a place that feels natural, suits your vision, and gives your photos the kind of atmosphere you’ll love looking back on.
Scarborough
Scarborough is a beautiful all-rounder if you want variety in one location. It has a lovely mix of water, rock, and grass, which makes it feel really natural and visually interesting without needing to move far. Even though it’s near the sand, I’m usually drawn more to the rocky and grassy areas for photos, with the water sitting softly in the background. It creates such a timeless, coastal feel without leaning too heavily into the typical “beach photo” look.
North Lakes Golf Course
It is s such a lovely option if you want a location that feels open, relaxed, and easy to move around in. It has plenty of space, which makes it especially great for sessions where you want a bit more freedom, whether that’s for kids running around, couples walking, or even bringing your dog along.
The overall look here leans more into a soft, natural trees-and-grass kind of setting, which gives your photos a timeless and grounded feel. It doesn’t feel too busy or distracting, which means the focus stays on the people in the frame while still giving you a beautiful backdrop.
Kawana Beach (1h Drive)
Kawana Beach is such a good choice if you’re wanting that classic beach feel with a little more variety than just open sand and water. You’ve got the ocean, the waves, and those soft neutral tones that make beach sessions feel so effortless and timeless.
One of the things that makes this spot stand out is the natural rise and fall of the sand, almost like little sand dunes or sand banks, which adds so much shape and depth to your photos. That higher and lower landscape makes the location feel more dynamic and gives us more to work with than a completely flat beach.
It also has that light, neutral beach grass which adds another layer of texture and gives a slightly softer coastal look. Those elevated areas are what really make this location special. They create beautiful little pockets to shoot in and allow for a lot of variety throughout a session without needing to go far.
Point Arkwright (1h drive)
Point Arkwright is probably one of the most versatile locations, and honestly, one of my personal favourites. It has such a beautiful mix of scenery, which means you can get so much variety from one session without needing to travel between spots.
You’ve got the beach in all its beauty, but then also these stunning large rocks that create a more textured, adventurous feel. They’re perfect for adding movement, depth, and something a little more striking to your photos. On top of that, there are also the cliffside views overlooking everything, along with grassy areas that soften the whole location and give it even more range.
It really feels like this spot has a bit of everything. Whether you’re after something coastal and relaxed, a little more dramatic, or those wide scenic shots with a grand backdrop, Point Arkwright delivers so well. It’s such a strong option if you love locations that feel open, beautiful, and full of variety.
Glass House Mountains (30min drive)
Glass House Mountains is such a beautiful option if you’re after a more earthy, grassy look with an incredible view. It has that open, natural feel while still giving your photos a really striking backdrop, which makes it a favourite for so many people.
What makes this location so fun is the variety within the one area. There’s the grassy space overlooking the Glass House Mountains, which gives you that scenic, wide-open feel, but there’s also a nearby pineapple plantation and a dirt road that add even more texture and character to a session. Each little area brings something different, which means your gallery can feel really varied while still staying cohesive.
